Chemical ripening agents – bio-chemical activity & Health effects?
It is said that direct consumption Fruits are treated with some chemicals to hasten ripening by there commercial dealers.Name such chemicals and the corresponding specific chemical methods used and their bio-chemical activity. Are there any such chemicals, hence specific agents used for: Water Melon, Banana’s, Mangoes,Others ? Some URL links to clinical studies on their consequent health effects.
Usually ethylene – that’s the only one I know of. It’s a natural product that comes off apples – you can ripen othe fruit by putting them in a bag with apples.
Any tips for nursing a poinsettia back to health?
I bought a small poinsettia for Christmas, and I am surprised it has last this long. It is losing leaves but the stalks still seem good and green. And so instead of throwing it out, I was looking to bring it back to health and keep it year long.
Do you have any tips for taking care of a poinsettia and bringing it back to health? Watering, plant food, light? Amounts?
I’ve already checked the Wikipedia site, so please reference other pages. Thanks for your help.
Amdrmgirl, should I do this even if it still has more than a dozen leaves, including some small green ones that seem to be just sprouting?

Poinsettias are not an easy plant to grow. They require a fairly narrow temperature range without drafts. Even just being in close proximity to the cold glass of a window in winter can cause problems.
They are extremely difficult to reflower. This is because poinsettias require a very precise ratio of darkness to light in order to induce the flowering cycle, and the darkness has to be complete. Ambient light from night lights, street lights, light pollution from nearby parking lots etc… can cause them to not rebloom.
Personally I’d recommend you just toss the thing in the compost bin and be done with it. If you’re up for the challenge you may find some helpful information at

I work for Family Day Care and I would like to obtain as many free brochures, fact sheets, resources and the likes on children, everything from their health, to child protection and all other child related information. Can anyone give me some ideas on where to get these.
Good for you! Even though we serve just a few families…we still can make a difference. Call your local health department…they were a big help to me and if they don’t have the sheet/brochure you want…they’ll be able to put you in contact with somebody who can!
What is the difference between Health Insurance and Health care Programs?

Swine Flu Vaccine Secret Letter H1N1 UK Specialists

A warning that the new swine flu jab is linked to a deadly nerve disease has been sent by the Government to senior neurologists in a confidential letter.
The letter from the Health Protection Agency, the official body that oversees public health, has been leaked to The Mail on Sunday, leading to demands to know why the information has not been given to the public before the vaccination of millions of people, including children, begins.
It tells the neurologists that they must be alert for an increase in a brain disorder called Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), which could be triggered by the vaccine.
GBS attacks the lining of the nerves, causing paralysis and inability to breathe, and can be fatal.
The letter, sent to about 600 neurologists on July 29, is the first sign that there is concern at the highest levels that the vaccine itself could cause serious complications.
It refers to the use of a similar swine flu vaccine in the United States in 1976 when:
More people died from the vaccination than from swine flu.
500 cases of GBS were detected.
The vaccine may have increased the risk of contracting GBS by eight times.
The vaccine was withdrawn after just ten weeks when the link with GBS became clear.
