How bad is diet pepsi for your health?

December 30th, 2009 -- Posted in health diet | 3 Comments »

I think i am addicted to diet pepsi. My mom drinks it and i have been drinking it too since i was like 4. I drink it every day, and i always need it. I drink about 1-2 cans a day. I have heard that the aspartame in it is bad for you, but how bad is it really?? And is there anything else bad about it for my health??? Please help!!!!
Also if you know of any diet sodas that have other artificial sweeteners besides aspartame PLEASE tell me what they are!!!!

While aspartame has been associated with various health problems, the FDA still considers it "safe" for human consumption. That doesn’t mean it’s "good" for you. Further, diet sodas generally are high in sodium.

Status: Considered by Senate

How would health insurance businesses be able to stay viable if the Senate bill is passed?

December 30th, 2009 -- Posted in health insurance | 3 Comments »

As I understand it, the bill forces all Americans to have health insurance. However, I think that the fine for having no health insurance is around $750. But after the year 2014, health insurance companies will not be able to turn customers away for preexisting conditions. Why wouldnt someone pay the fine or buy low end coverage until they got ill and supplement the coverage or buy an extensive plan?

i htought the main reason of living in a society was to help each other out, am i wrong?

How To Become a Chemical Engineer

December 29th, 2009 -- Posted in chemical health | 1 Comment »

Chemical engineers apply the principles of chemistry to solve problems involving the production or use of chemicals and biochemicals. They design equipment and processes for large-scale chemical manufacturing, plan and test methods of manufacturing products and treating byproducts, and supervise production. Chemical engineers also work in a variety of manufacturing industries other than chemical manufacturing, such as those producing energy, electronics, food, clothing, and paper. They also work in health care, biotechnology, and business services. Chemical engineers apply principles of physics, mathematics, and mechanical and electrical engineering, as well as chemistry. Some may specialize in a particular chemical process, such as oxidation or polymerization. Others specialize in a particular field, such as nanomaterials, or in the development of specific products. They must be aware of all aspects of chemicals manufacturing and how the manufacturing process affects the environment and the safety of workers and consumers. A bachelors degree in engineering is required for almost all entry-level engineering jobs.

Painting Health Hazards and Their Control 1982

December 29th, 2009 -- Posted in health protection information | 2 Comments »

This is from the 1984 NIOSH video, Dual Protection (14 minutes), an excellent training tool that is still relevant today, 25 years later. It explores ways to control painter exposure to hazardous materials through the substitution of safer materials and equipment and other engineering controls, including ventilation. For more information on health and safety protection for painters, go to:
CPWR — The Center for Construction Research and Training, formerly known as The Center to Protect Workers’ Rights (CPWR), a world leader in improving the health and safety of construction workers at http://www.cpwr.com/

NIOSH — the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/

Alaska’s Hazardous Paint Handlers Certification program – at http://www.cdc.gov/eLCOSH/docs/d0100/d000178/d000178.html – this requires that professional painters in Alaska be certified through a training course consists of 16 hours of instruction on the identification of hazards and the use of engineering controls, such as ventilation, and protective equipment, such as respirators, rubber gloves and “barrier creams” for the skin. A law creating the program was passed in 1989, after the International Agency for Research on Cancer concluded that “occupational exposure as a painter is carcinogenic,” based on studies showing a consistent excess of cancer among painters. Some recent studies indicate that even the offspring of painters may be at increased risk of cancer or birth defects. Painting is sometimes called “the carcinogenic trade.” Materials used by professional painters — solvent-bearing enamels, epoxies and thinners, for instance — can cause cancer as well as painful skin rashes, nerve damage and long-term chemical sensitivity.

Environment — safer paint products can be good for the environment and for workers. This approach goes under several names – green chemistry, pollution prevention or toxic use reduction.
