Can you get your local TV News station to show Chemical Structures?

Anytime a news story is about drugs (legal or illegal) or chemical spills they never show the structure of the chemical with the news story.

I think this is censorship and it keeps the public from making informed decisions about health and environmental issues.

The big lure about drug abuse is the mystery, and showing the structures in the news would do much to lessen this mystery.

So, try calling your local TV station, ask them to start showing chemical structures in their news segments on drug/chemical issues.

This is a survey: please tell me what your station says. I am looking for one exception to this censorship rule.

That would certainly add to the entertainment value of the newscast. I can hardly wait for the anchor woman to giggle and say something like – "Did you see how that benzene ring always seems to show up on the top carbon atom? Speaking of showing up, did you see another cute puppy dog is lost in the north-side neighborhood."

How do you get out of a rental lease when you feel your health and child’s health is at risk?

I moved from out of state for a new job only to discover the apartment I chose is located next to a nuclear plant, toxic dump landfill, and chemical plant. I am 7 months pregnant and have found startling statistics of rising cancer rates in the area and major complications from pregnancy related to the toxic zone. Anything I can do to get out of my lease and protect my health and my new baby’s health? I signed a 13 month lease as of January of this year. Thanks!
Yes, I had to do everything online and over the phone since I was out of state…it was brand new and actually quite expensive for the area….i had no idea there were 2 cooling towers in the distance till I showed up with the moving truck! Bad Suprise!

If there is not a good reason why you did not know this information before, other than you just weren’t aware, I don’t really think there is a way to get out of the lease without paying what the lease asks for breaking it. Sometimes, there are loopholes for the first 30 days. You can see if you can sublease, or see if they are willing to only have you pay rent until they can find another renter. Or you can move, refuse to pay your rent and see if there is a class action law suit against the Nuclear plant, landfill and chemical plant that can pay your rent and all the costs associated with not paying your rent. (Go Erin Brochovich) Overall, I just don’t think the apartment owners will be responsible for the fact there is a nuclear plant, landfill, etc… near their property. If anything, that has caused their property taxes to go way down and your rent to be comparably low.

Is there a difference between canned soda and fountain drinks health wise?

Is there a difference between canned soda and fountain drinks health wise?
Is the sugar content worst in fountain drinks? Are there chemical differences? Scientific and every day experience will be appreciated!

Well theres an obvious one being canned drinks are usualy safer, bacteria wise. Fountain drinks, like the ones you would get your drink from at McDonalds or the Cinema would be used by more than one person thus giving more of a chance to get sick…

Once just drinking cola in the car made me sick and put me of drinking it for a year, this was off a fountain despencer… (dont know if it was the fountain drink that did it thought)

How do you know if you have a chemical imbalance?

I have suffered from anxiety for two years now. I am certain I have pmdd as well. I live a stressful life which leads to depression, especially around my period… Some nights, I have a million thoughts going through my head, I have to focus on something to stop these racing thoughts before I force myself to go to sleep. Some days I have control over my emotions and some days I don’t. Every day my attitude is different. Sometimes things really bother me, and some times I don’t let it get to me…. My husband says I have ocd… I am afraid to start meds if it’s all in my head and I don’t really need them.. How can I find out if I have a chemical imbalance? I know some of my family members have mental health issues?? Can’t I go to the doc and get on yak birth control? Won’t that help? I am afraid if I get on something like zoloft, I won’t be able to control my actions or the way I act…. Thanks for the help.

Do NOT self diagnose yourself.
Go to a doctor —- mental health doctor and let them run tests on you. Don’t ask US. Ask a professional.

Are shaving creams and hair removers like veet harmful to health epecially when used in the groin area?

Its so hard to shave the groin area when using shavers, iv never tried using hair removers because i fear they could probably leave chemical residues which may affect fertility and health in general. Is that true?

On every hair remover bottle, it specifically says "DO NOT use around the genital areas" and other places.
You can get some kind of bikini wax or hair remover especially for the genital areas but make sure it says so on the can/bottle/box.
Plus they’re nasty. Do you know what that stuff is made of? Urea, the main component in urine.
Shaving creams are unhealthy too. Keep them away from your genitals. Use a thick soap instead. Some kind of soap that lathers well- it works just as well.

Whenever you’re using ANY product near a sensitive area, read the labels word for word for cautions and warnings.

Is adding cream/milk to coffee bad for your health? I hear it changes the chemical composition of the drink.?

My mom and my friend tells me that adding milk or cream to coffee changes the composition of the chemicals and makes it bad for your health or not as good. They tell me that drinking black coffee is really good for your heart and kidneys, adding cream or sugar actually neutralizes those benefits.

I’ve been searching everywhere online for proof of this. Does anyone know what exactly happens and also the benefits of only drinking black coffee and what happens when you add milk/cream?

Please don’t tell me the obvious such as less calories, less fat, less hormones and antibiotics from cow milk, etc.

Thanks

"They tell me that drinking black coffee is really good for your heart and kidneys"

Sounds like a myth. Black coffee has its problems and benefits. Good for the heart? Possibly in high doses. Kidneys, doubt it. Caffeine is a diuretic. The last thing your kidney desires is a lack of water in the system.

Now take this perspective. If you consume black coffee as it is on a stomach that’s full of other enzymes, fluids, and not to mention is low pH, would probably alter it’s chemical composition, but there’s barely anything in coffee anyways. The only beneficial substance is, well, caffeine? Sure it can relax blood vessels, which may help the heart, but regardless, the sugar/creme argument sounds like propaganda to stay away from those additives.

What are the sources of mercury contamination? What are its health effects??

What chemical contaminants are present in dry cleaning agents? What are the potential health effects?

. List five health effects of pesticides?

. Where should you report environmental damage or health effects due to any facility dealing with hazardous chemicals in your neighborhood?
10. What steps would you propose to your town to clean up an oil spill? Look up the term remediation and suggest three techniques that would be useful.

There are natural sources of mercury contamination (volcanic eruption) and man-made emissions (coal burning, metal processing, waste incineration).
The emissions themselves may be so slight as to be undetectable, but mercury accumulates in the food chain, gradually increasing in concentration as it moves up the food chain.

Risks from Plastic Bottles health worries Resurface Over Chemical utilized Part 3

http://www.waterhealstheworld.com

“Rarely has a chemical been the topic of such intense systematic testing and perusal, and still vital agencies across the world agree that there isn’t any danger posed to humans from polycarbonate bottles,” Tom Cummins, a Nalge Nunc research director, expounded in a press release. The company dropped to permit managers to be interviewed. Its purchaser products arm, with reckoned sales of $50 million to $65 million, accounts for a tiny part of Thermo Fisher’s $9.5 bn. in yearly cash. UBS Investment Research researcher Derik De Bruin told backers Nalge Nunc also makes translucent boxes made from other, softer plastics like polyethylene. So even a wider retailer recall of polycarbonate products “would likely have minimal effect on the company,” he wrote.

In this town of Lake Ontario’s southern shore, judgments about a long-admired local enterprise were usually leavened with sympathy. “Nalgene is the hallmark water bottle for the backcountry,” asserted entrepreneur and skiing fan Rob Norris, 58, as he shopped for a backpack at an Eastern Mountain Sports store.

“I do not have any reservations right now,” he claimed. “To me, it is one of these overreaching things where there’s some minute particles that might leach out of a chunk of plastic. But who is able to say what’s in the water we are drinking?” But Ellen Guisto, 31, a homebody mummy of 2, stated that a growing chorus or worry about the chemical makes her hesitate. “I’m not an alarmist fundamentally but if I hear there is a possibility that this could cause cancer, I do not believe I might use it,” she announced.
